Pacific Resources for Education and Learning The Stages of Reading Development is a continuum that explains how students progress as readers. Knowing these stages is helpful when developing materials for specific types of readers. Emergent readers need enriching and enjoyable experiences with books, especially picture books.

I've made a special effort to create themes which will engage all children. Looking around I have found resources on other sites which have lots of appeal for girls flowers, butterflies etc.

Because of this I have chosen as my first theme colourful trucks, which I hope will appeal to boys and girls.

I know I struggled to get one little boy interested in reading until I came up with the idea of sticking words onto cars, lorries and trains In addition to printable letter and word cards, I will also be adding printable games, plus teaching ideas, activities and links to Letters and Sounds games which you can use on computers or on as interactive whiteboard activities.
