This responsibility requires an in-depth knowledge of a variety of regulations concerning the overall operations of the unit, to include knowledge of the functional aspects of the unit mission, as well as those related to administration, training, supply, military personnel and pay administration, security, retention, equipment maintenance, public affairs, etc.

Acts for the commander in coordinating unit preparation for official inspections, Command Staff visits, and similar activities. Plans and establishes priorities; assigns, distributes, and reviews work of subordinate unit sections and personnel.

Reviews incoming directives, policies, and instructions from higher headquarters; advises the commander, and develops and recommends appropriate action to implement changes. Maintains liaison with higher headquarters speaking for the Commander in clarifying administrative matters, explaining views, or explaining implications of pending problems and programs involving the unit.

Participates in the program planning process.


Prepares standard operating procedures to cover a variety of functional activities for the unit. Reviews and updates unit mobilizations files to include alert plan, loading and unit movement plans, logistics requirements, Class "A" agent and ordering officer kits. Supervises and directs the work of lower graded full-time civilian and military employees.

Serves as key coordinator regarding the administration of unit and individual training, interpreting training directives and guidance and analyzing unit training status. Recommends changes on unit training program, training schedules, and monthly plans.

Counsels and advises unit personnel on availability of courses, and discusses the nature of courses required for specific MOS attainment. Based on knowledge of training requirements for the unit, prepares requests for Army Service Schools, courses, and correspondence courses.

Identifies personnel requiring SQT testing and distributes soldier manuals, SQT notices, study materials and individual soldier reports. Determines needs based on training schedule and secures necessary training aid material and training publications through continued review and requisition of material.

Gathers information for and prepares various training and status reports for the commander and higher headquarters review. Conducts on-the-job training of Reservists in administration and supply. Prepares for official inspections, annual training, weapons qualification, and training exercises and prepares reports as necessary.
